The smallest compressor refrigerator in the WAECO WCR series: 44 liters, 12/24 V, with a freezer compartment—for anyone who wants a real refrigerator in their camper instead of a cooler, without having to go for a premium model.

What size do you need?

We offer the WCR series in four sizes. The WCR 50, with a capacity of 44 liters, is the most compact model; at 38 cm wide, it fits even in vans and small panel vans where every centimeter counts. If you need more space, go for the WCR 60 (55 l) or the WCR 80 (75 l). For families and long-term trips, there’s the WCR 150 with a 153-liter capacity in a slim, tower-style design.

Compared to the Dometic CoolMatic NRX series, the WCR line offers the best value for the money: same basic concept, less electronics, and significantly lower price. If you want a frameless door, a 3-in-1 cooling solution, and Eco/Boost/Silent modes, check out the NRX.

What it’s designed for

The WCR 50 uses compressor technology, allowing it to cool regardless of the outside temperature or the vehicle’s angle—unlike an absorption refrigerator, which must be kept level and loses performance in hot weather. You don’t need gas on board or external ventilation grilles in the vehicle body. This makes it the obvious choice for a DIY installation.

The compressor operates in two modes: “Power” for rapid cooling and “Quiet” for nighttime use. You can switch between modes using the control panel inside the vehicle.

Installation

The refrigerator can be used as a freestanding unit or built into a cabinet; a mounting frame is available as an option. The door hinge is reversible, so you can have the door open to the left or right—plan this before building your cabinetry. The matte black door panel is interchangeable and can be customized to match your interior decor.

The door latch has a dual function: during the off-season, you can use it to keep the door slightly ajar, ensuring the interior stays ventilated and preventing mold growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave it running while driving?
Yes. It runs on 12 V or 24 V and is designed for operation in a moving vehicle.

Does it require a ventilation grille in the vehicle wall?
No, unlike an absorption refrigerator, it does not. However, it does need air circulation around the cooling unit—be sure to allow for intake and exhaust air in the cabinet design.

How much power does it consume?
0.32 kWh in 24 hours according to the standard. Converted to 12 V, that’s about 27 Ah per day, or just over 1 Ah per hour on average. Less in quiet mode, more in high heat.

Does it run on 230 V?
Not directly. It’s a 12/24-V appliance. For shore power operation, you’ll need a power adapter.

Can I have the door hinge on the left?
Yes, the door hinge can be reversed.
