The big brother of the WAECO WCR series: 153 liters in a slim, tower-style design, 12/24 V, with a 17.5-liter freezer compartment—a household-sized model for families and long-term travelers that’s still only 42 cm wide.

What size do you need?

We offer the WCR series in four sizes. The WCR 150 is the largest and features a slim tower design: 1.48 m tall, but only 41.8 cm wide—ideal for RVs with a tall kitchen niche. If you need less capacity, choose the WCR 80 (75 L), the WCR 60 (55 L), or the compact WCR 50 (44 L).

Compared to the Dometic CoolMatic NRX series, the WCR line offers the best value for the money: same basic concept, fewer electronic components, and significantly lower price. In this size class, the WCR series is also one of the few alternatives to the large Thetford and Dometic tower units.

What it’s designed for

Compressor technology cools regardless of the outside temperature and the vehicle’s incline—unlike an absorption refrigerator, which must be kept level and loses performance in hot weather. No gas is needed on board, and there are no external ventilation grilles in the vehicle body. With a 153-liter capacity, this is particularly advantageous because an absorption refrigerator of this size quickly reaches its limits in the summer.

The compressor operates in two modes: “Power” for rapid cooling and “Quiet” for nighttime use. Settings are adjusted via the control panel inside the vehicle.

Installation

A mounting frame is available as an option. With a weight of 31 kg when empty plus contents, a sturdy subframe is required—be sure to factor this into your cabinet design. The door hinge direction is reversible, and for a tower-style unit, this significantly affects the traffic flow in the kitchen, so decide on this before building your cabinets. The matte black door trim is replaceable.

The door lock has a dual function: during the off-season, you can use it to keep the door slightly ajar, allowing the interior to remain ventilated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave it running while driving?
Yes. It runs on 12 V or 24 V and is designed for operation in a moving vehicle.

Does it require a ventilation grille in the vehicle wall?
No, unlike an absorption refrigerator, it does not. However, it does require air circulation around the cooling unit—be sure to allow ample space for air intake and exhaust when planning the cabinet layout, especially for this size.

Is my auxiliary battery sufficient?
0.46 kWh over 24 hours, according to the standard, equates to approximately 38 Ah per day at 12 V. A 100-Ah LiFePO4 battery will therefore power it for a good two days if nothing else is running. For self-sufficient off-grid use, it makes sense to include solar power—we’d be happy to run the numbers with you.

Does it run on 230 V?
Not directly; it’s a 12/24-V unit. You’ll need a power adapter for shore power.

Can I have the door hinge on the left?
Yes, the door hinge is reversible.
