The Orion XS 12/12-70A charges your auxiliary battery while driving at up to 70 A and 1000 W, even when paired with modern smart alternators. Using VictronConnect, you can precisely adjust the input and output current in 0.1-A increments to match your alternator’s capacity.
You can select cable lengths from the drop-down menu. We include 25 mm² cable with every model—this is the minimum cross-section specified by Victron for the 70-A charger when cable lengths are under 10 m. So you don’t have to calculate whether it’s long enough for your setup.

Which set do you need?
- This set with the 70A – 1000 W if you want to quickly charge a large lithium battery bank. Note: IP20 protection rating, actively cooled with fans. It must be installed in a dry interior environment.
- Set with the Orion XS 50A – 700 W, featuring IP65 protection and fanless operation. The right choice if the installation location is damp or at risk of water splashes, e.g., under the vehicle floor or in the engine compartment.
Regarding cable length
This refers to the total distance: from the starter battery to the charge booster, plus from the charge booster to the auxiliary battery. Measure generously inside the vehicle—detours around the frame and cross members add up faster than you might think. Since 25 mm² is sufficient everywhere, you’re on the safe side up to a total length of 10 m.
Installation
The two fuses should be installed on both sides—one near the starter battery and one near the auxiliary battery, each as close to the battery as possible. The terminals on the Orion XS accommodate 25 mm²; tighten them to 5.6 Nm. Thanks to TORK-KRIMP, you can insert the wire end ferrules directly; pre-crimping is not necessary.
Everything is configured and monitored via Bluetooth using the VictronConnect app. You can integrate the charger into an existing Victron system with Cerbo GX via the VE.Direct connection (including DVCC).

Frequently Asked Questions
Why 25 mm² everywhere and not 16 mm²?
Because Victron specifies 25 mm² as the minimum cross-section for the 70-A model, regardless of length, as long as the cable is less than 10 m. For the 50-A kit, 16 mm² is sufficient for short distances.
What’s the difference from the Orion XS 50A Set?
Higher power output (1,000 W instead of 700 W), but a lower protection rating: IP20 instead of IP65, because the 70A model is actively cooled by fans. It must therefore be installed in a dry location.
Will it work with my alternator?
Yes, as long as you limit the input current appropriately. That’s exactly what the continuously adjustable current limiter is for—it prevents you from overloading the alternator. If in doubt, ask us; we’ll help you with the setup.
Does it work with LiFePO4?
Yes. There’s a lithium preset, and the low-temperature shutdown protects your battery when charging in winter.
Can I connect two units in parallel?
Yes, multiple Orion XS units can be operated in parallel to increase the charging current. You’ll need to calculate the cables and fuses for each unit.
