The Victron Battery-Protect BP-220 disconnects the battery from the less important consumers before it is completely discharged (which would damage it) or before it no longer has sufficient energy to start the engine etc.. In addition, the BP series has overvoltage protection, which switches off the load at 16V or 32V battery voltage and protects it from damage. The BP supports AGM, lead-acid, gel and lithium batteries.
6 different switch-off thresholds can be set
The Battery Protect is very flexible and can be set to different cut-off voltages. The following switch-off thresholds can be activated on the device: 10.5V / 21V, 10V / 20V, 9.5V / 19V, 11.25V / 22.5V, 11.5V / 23V, 11.8V 23.6V
There are also different switch-on thresholds that can be selected for most switch-off thresholds. This makes this device the perfect protective device for your battery and thus ensures maximum service life, as most voltage converters or charge regulators have undervoltage protection, but this only intervenes at fairly low values, which are usually in the range of 10.5V / 21V. The higher this switch-off threshold is, the longer you will be able to enjoy your batteries, which are generally quite cost-intensive.
Essential product features summarized
- For 12V and 24V batteries with automatic detection of the battery bank's voltage range
- 6 different cut-off voltages selectable
- 100A maximum continuous current
- Simple programming and status display of settings via seven-segment display
- Extra mode for lithium batteries - in this mode the BP can be controlled by the VE.Bus BMS
- Very low power consumption
- Explosion protection through integrated MOSFET switches that replace the relays and thus reduce the risk of sparking to zero
- Integrated alarm output
output for delayed alarm
The alarm output is activated if the battery voltage falls below the preset value for shutdown for more than 12 seconds. Switching on the motor therefore does not activate the alarm. The alarm output is a short-circuit protected open collector output that is connected to the negative (minus) rail. Max. Current 50 mA. The alarm output is normally used to activate an audible signal, an LED or a relay.
Load disconnection and reconnection delay
The load is disconnected 90 seconds after the alarm is activated. If the battery voltage rises again to the threshold value for reconnection within this period (after the engine has been started, for example), the load is not switched off. The load is reconnected 30 seconds after the battery voltage has exceeded the specified voltage value for reconnection.
Note on deep discharge protection:
If Battery Protect is used in conjunction with voltage transformers, there may be problems with the reconnection function. may occur. Larger voltage transformer models (>1500W) may require a very high capacitor current during switch-on, which may cause the BP to go into error mode. This can be avoided by briefly switching the voltage transformer off and on again.
The protective function of the BP remains intact.
