The Orion XS 1400 DC/DC charger was developed to redefine adaptive DC/DC charging. Designed for use in dual-battery systems charged by a (smart) alternator.
Variable input and output voltage: Input: 9–35 V and Output: 10 V–35 V.
It can therefore be used for 24V to 12V, 12V to 12V, 12V to 24V, or 24V to 24V.
(For 12V–12V systems, I would recommend the standard Orion XS, which offers more power in 12V systems.)
--> The current (amps) can be adjusted on this version: 0–50 A.
According to Victron, it can accommodate up to 21 mm². We’ve tested it—25 mm² fits just fine, too.
The Orion XS 1400 DC/DC charger from Victron Energy is a highly advanced charge controller designed specifically for use in dual-battery systems. With a wide input and output voltage range of 9 to 35 volts, this device offers a reliable solution for vehicles with smart alternators, which often provide insufficient charging voltages. The Orion XS 1400 ensures precise and controlled charging, even over long cable runs, such as those found in boats and RVs. Thanks to its advanced technology and adaptive four-stage charging algorithm, the service battery is charged efficiently while the starter battery remains protected from discharge. The system’s safety is ensured by built-in protection features such as short-circuit and overheating protection. The charging current can be individually adjusted via the VictronConnect app, allowing for flexible use.
This protects the starter battery from deep discharge.
