The reception is better, especially in congested places like campsites. I simply added an ESIM to my Swisscom ABO (Wingo) and programmed it to this router. This antenna uses my data subscription. (Unlimited Internet in the EU, or 40GB fast per month, then slowed down) The data package changes every now and then, of course. But from 2025 you get very good EU unlimited packages. The product needs almost no power, provides better and more stable reception and above all you have a normal WLAN like at home, where you can connect all devices.
It takes about 1 hour to set up the ESIM until it works, because you have to "fiddle around" a bit. If you have a hardware SIM, you can plug it in, connect to your cell phone, enter the SIM code and you're done.
If you want to program the ESIM, THE DEVICE NEEDS INTERNET FIRST! So you connect to the device (IP (probably 192.168.1.1) is on the front, login data incl. password on the back)
Then click on the blue button "Scan 2.4Ghz" under Wireless. It will now show you the WLANs it finds. So you have to do this in a place where you have WLAN or a hotspot from another cell phone. Once the device is connected to the wifi you have to select the simcard slot you want as "Primary". So if you want ESIM, you have to select the ESIM card slot (slot no. 3) as primary.

You can upload a QR code further down. You will receive the QR code from your service provider (Swisscom or similar) when you apply for a second ESIM. Save the image of the QR code on your cell phone or PC and upload it there. Then click on "download" below and wait approx. 1 minute. Now it should work.

The antenna on the roof has 2 metal pads at the bottom that press on the chassis. They need the bare sheet metal of the vehicle. So if you have a sheet metal roof that is 22 cm flat in diameter, then simply roughen the 2 points on the sheet metal so that the antenna has contact with the vehicle. (If you have the antenna in your hands, you know what I mean)

If you have a panel van like me, which has "corrugations" on the roof and therefore no straight surface, I have made a special aluminum adapter plate. This guides and can be glued over the corrugations on the roof. I have simply roughened my 2x2cm so that the adapter plate can be attached to a point has contact with the chassis. Then glued everything together with 521UV. The plate already has a hole in the middle for the cable routing. Now the 2 electropads of the antenna touch the adapter plate and the adapter plate touches the chassis.
